Top 5 First Dance Songs

I love music.  I constantly have it on in my office as background and if you see me driving down the road you will probably hear me singing (well belting in some cases) oblivious to the other drivers around me.

After 12 years in business I have heard a lot of music at weddings.  There are some songs that when I hear them I think, OMG that would be perfect for a first dance. You may already have your special song with your fiancé and if you do, that is great by all means use it. However if you are looking for inspiration here is my list of my favorites, some are new this year and some are old standbys. They are from all genres pop, country, classic, R&B etc.

Confession: even though my playlists don’t have a plethora of country on them, living in Idaho and planning weddings in the Inland Northwest, sometimes only a country song will do, especially when you have an outdoor, lakeside wedding don’t be afraid to think outside the box for your first dance song. Here are my top 5. I have these all on a playlist called first dance songs, as a wedding planner you have to be prepared!

  • Perfect by Ed SheerhanI have a feeling this is going to be 2017’s main choice, it is a beautiful song full of great melodies and opportunities for the perfect dip mid song. There are many Ed Sheerhan songs that work for a first dance but this is my current favorite.
  • You are the Best Thing by Ray LamontagneI heard this about 5 years ago for the first time as a first dance song.  It is perfect especially if you want an upbeat song to get the party started!
  • Could I have this dance for the rest of my life by Anne MurrayThis song is timeless, It was supposed to be  my first dance song until we decided to do a choreographed dance and this song is only made for those that know how to waltz (which was not my hubby and I).  With lyrics like “Could I have this dance
for the rest of my life,
    Could you be my partner
    every night,
    when we’re together
    it feels so right…
It is just begging to be used
  • This by Darius RuckerI love this song, especially for couples that met by chance, it’s a little country and a little pop perfect for your North Idaho wedding.
  • All of me by John LegendThis song was written by Legend for his awesome wife Christy Teigen, enough said.

I want to know what your favorite first dance song, or which one are you planning to use at your wedding? I need to add to my first dance playlist.
